Class Descriptions Classes Offered Preschool Through Age 7
Little Ballerinas (Age 3) - The 45 minute classes once a week are a great introduction to the world of ballet and creative movement. Students learn ballet positions, locomotor and nonlocomotor skills, musicality and improvisation in a fun and nurturing atmosphere. Three year olds participate in their own performance at the end of the year. Combination Class (Age 4) - The 4 year old classes are 45 minutes long and meet once a week. Students build their basic ballet vocabulary and knowledge. Body alignment and centre floor work are introduced. Students develop rhythm and strengthen musicality in the tap portion of class. Improvisation and storytelling are used to foster an appreciation for creative movement. This class performs a tap piece in the recital. Combination Class (Age 5) - The 5 year old classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week. Students are taught the importance of the barre in ballet and tap warm-ups. Across the floor exercises become an integral part of class. Students strengthen their knowledge of basic terminology. Improvisational games are taught. This class performs a tap or ballet piece in the recital to be determined by the instructor. Combination Class (Age 6) - The 6 year old classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week. Students focus on improving and strengthening the basic techniques of ballet and tap. Known vocabulary is turned into mini-combinations to challenge student*s muscle memory and intellectual knowledge. Coordination is enhanced through the use of props and creative movement starts to introduce elements of choreography. This class performs a tap or a ballet piece at the end of the year recital to be determined by the instructor. Creative Movement/ Ballet Class (Age 6) - The 6 year old classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week. Students focus on improving and strengthening the basic technique of ballet. Get Funky Combination Class (Age 7) - The 7 year old classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week. Class continues to build on the importance of ballet and tap technique and foster an appreciation for creative movement. Students learn the fundamentals of jazz technique while dancing to their favorite music. At the end of this class, students will have a basic understanding of the differences between ballet, jazz, tap and modern. They will be ready to make informed decisions on what they want to study at level 1. This class performs a ballet and tap piece in the recital. Get Funky Creative Movement/ Ballet Class (Age 7) - The 7 year old classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week. Class continues to build on the importance of ballet technique and foster an appreciation for creative movement. Classes Offered Age 8 through Adult Classical Ballet - Graded levels of classical ballet instruction are available, for children 8 years and older. Ballet focuses on poise and grace. It is a strong support system for all other dance genres. All Students are encouraged to study ballet. Skill level determines the length of the class. Pointe - Ballet students with sufficient ballet training will be invited to take this class. Students must have teacher recommendation and take at least one ballet class a week. Skill level determines length of class. Tap - Graded levels of tap are available for children ages 8 years and older. Tap focuses on the fine motor skills of the feet through the use of rhythm. Skill level determines the length of the class. Jazz - This class is offered to children ages 8 years and older. Jazz focuses on movement of the body through isolation, stretch, traveling and center combinations. Different styles of jazz such as musical theatre, lyrical and contemporary are explored. This class has a strong relationship to music and rhythm. Skill level determines the length of the class. Hip Hop - This class is offered for students ages 11 and older. Students must take a technique class in addition to hip hop class. Hip Hop is a high energy, strength building dance class. Prior dance experience is preferred. Modern - Modern is available for ages 8 and older. It focuses on teaching students to explore and experience movements and techniques that are both unique and expressive. Adult Classes - Ballet and tap are offered once a week for adults interested in getting their bodies moving! These classes are designed for all ability levels.
